University of Notre Dame
Letter from the 2014-2015 Notre Dame Quest Liaison
Welcome to the Notre Dame QSN Chapter page!
Here, you will be welcomed as many times as it takes for you to get the sense that you are truly welcome as a Quest Scholar attending Notre Dame, and many times more! But before inundating you with welcomes, allow me to give a bit of background about Notre Dame's QSN Chapter and myself.
My name is Minyi Lin, but I go by Mike. Anyway, I was born in China, and I moved to sunny SoCal when I was six. After getting tired of the perpetually nice weather and seeking a bit of shelter from the warm, I decided to come to South Bend to enjoy its invitingly frigid atmosphere. I was not disappointed. In fact, the tough Midwestern winters seem to make the student body more cohesive as a whole, melting away individual differences as individuals stand firm in their united complaints against the blasts of sub-zero air.
But it is not only cold weather that typifies Notre Dame student life. No experience at Notre Dame would be complete without football, dining hall omelets, and SYRs. No experience at Notre Dame would be complete without Basilica Mass, community service, and campus retreats. No experience at Notre Dame would be complete without long nights in the library, lectures and book signings of famous writers, and tests at the less well-known geodesic dome, the Stepan Center.
In this context, Notre Dame Quest Scholars seek to experience life not only as Domers, but also as Quest Scholars. We are volunteers with the TRiO program, NDignite, and CommUniversity. We are champions of financial security, and our annual financial literacy event has renowned professors speak on the subject. We are a new group on campus, but our numbers are growing with each passing year. We are the Fighting Irish.
With that said, I would like to extend my sincerest welcome (and the welcome of every Notre Dame student, Quest Scholar or not), to the incoming Notre Dame Quest Scholars of the Class of 2018.
Your Quest Liaison,
Mike Lin ‘16
