 Bowdoin College
Welcome
Letter from the Bowdoin Quest Liaison

Hello one and all,
My name is Arhea Marshall, and it is my pleasure to be the Quest Liaison for Bowdoin College. Purple, marine life, German, chivalry, practicality, and respect are my muses. I am a current sophomore, planning to declare a double major in German and Earth and Oceanographic Science and a minor in biology. On campus I am involved in Polar Bear Cheerleading, JV Soccer, IM Basketball, the African American Society, the Entertainment Board (E-board) and Peer Health. I also hold campus jobs as a tour guide, Dining Services student manager and Residential Life Proctor. From my profile, you can probably tell that there are a lot of possibilities for students at Bowdoin.
Bowdoin College is a multidimensional College, where students have the opportunity to grow academically, socially, individually, and all the places in between. Despite being a small liberal arts college in the northernmost state in the northeast, Maine, we have a diverse appeal. From eccentric courses on venoms and toxins to campus traditions, such as pepper flips and Pre-Os, Bowdoin is a unique place for driven people. When I chose Bowdoin almost two years ago my decision came down to community, my compatibility with the community, and the following “Offer of the College”:
The Offer of the College
TO BE AT HOME in all lands and all ages; To count Nature a familiar acquaintance, And Art an intimate friend; To gain a standard for the appreciation of others’ work And the criticism of your own; To carry the keys of the world’s library in your pocket, And feel its resources behind you in whatever task you undertake; To make hosts of friends... Who are to be leaders in all walks of life; To lose yourself in generous enthusiasms And cooperate with others for common ends — This is the offer of the college for the best four years of your life.
Adapted from the original “Offer of the College” by William DeWitt Hyde, President of Bowdoin College, 1885 - 1917
That is the offer of Bowdoin College, the opportunity to expand the Common Good and grow, outside and inside of academics. As Bowdoin Quest Scholars we challenge ourselves to take advantage of all that our college experience offers. As Quest Scholars we strive to represent the lands, friends and leaders mentioned above.
