Letter from the 2013-2014 Amherst Quest Liaison

Michelle Palencia, Amherst

Welcome to our chapter page! My name is Michelle Palencia, and I am serving as your Amherst Quest Liaison for this academic year. As an Amherst Quest Scholar, you are joining a diverse, tight-knit community of about 1,700 passionate and dedicated scholars, athletes, and leaders. Despite our varying backgrounds and interests, all Amherst students and alumni share the common bond of being proud Jeffs!

If our enthusiasm is not enough to convince you that Amherst is a great place, let me tell you more about what we have to offer! Amherst without fail appears at the top of all major liberal arts college rankings. Are you unsure about which of your many academic interests to pursue? No problem! Here at Amherst our open curriculum grants students the absolute freedom to explore their academic interests. The average class size is twenty students, which allows you to build close relationships with your professors and take advantage of one-on-one research opportunities. There are multiple ways in which you can get involved with student organizations - all you have to do is take the initiative and find one you like! Our alumni are awesome and their generous contributions open doors for resources to fund numerous research opportunities and internships. Our campus can boast about its view of the Pioneer Valley mountain range, with its lush trees and the sun rising over the mountaintops.

The Amherst Quest Scholars Network Chapter has been a part of the campus since 2010. We welcome newcomers and hope to extend our support to you and current members with personal development opportunities by providing a strong support system, as well as leadership opportunities. Our members are committed to sharing the Quest Scholar message of scholarship, leadership, service, and academics to high-achieving low-income students throughout the Pioneer Valley, and we hope you are too.

I look forward to welcoming you personally into our chapter and working with you this year.
